Check Your Site’s Average Google Ranking

With the Search Analytics report, you’re able to see clicks, impressions, CTR and ranking for your site. Then you can filter the data in a variety of ways.

For example, you filter the report to show only data for one page, and then look at the search queries driving traffic to that particular page.

From there, you can narrow the filter even more to see how desktop users are searching as compared to mobile users, or how users in different countries compare to one another in search trends.

Check Your Site for Manual Actions

When a site is penalized by Google by something besides the algorithm itself, it’s called a manual action. For instance, your site might be violating web spam guidelines and has severely punished.

Worse yet, it could have been removed altogether.

If you track Google ratings and have noticed lately that your site has essentially disappeared, you’ll want to check the search console. It’s possible that your site has had a manual action taken upon it.

It means you’ll show up for more relevant searches – especially as Google is considering including structured data more directly into the search algorithm. Then you can start strategizing your SEO like a professional.

Within the console, you can use the Data Highlighter to highlight information on your web pages and label them as particular kinds of data.

There is a limitation to the Data Highlighter though. You’re only able to tag a handful of different kinds of data and only to tag data that shows to your user. You’re not able to label any meta data.

And as far as the entire console goes, there is one major flaw. And that is, it only gives you information from Google search.

But since Google still dominates the world of online search and SEO, it’s safe to say that the Google Search Console is still a very helpful tool.
